Every day, lawyers use their time, their money and their influence to make our community a fairer and better place.  The stories below showcase how Chicago lawyers and legal professionals are making a difference and just a few of the ways that your support of the CBF is making an impact.

YOUR MONEY AT WORK

Doing Good Well

Denis PierceLawyer Denis Pierce puts his money where his mouth is and as a result, increases access to justice for those in need. A partner at Pierce and Associates, he, along with his family, founded the Pierce Family Foundation. While many individuals in our legal community give generously in support of our community’s pro bono and legal aid organizations, Denis is one of a more select group who have found a way to take their giving to the next level. Through the commitments of his law firm and the work of his family foundation, Denis has been making generous contributions to law-related charities in a way that transcends giving back. “Our perspective was actually shaped by my wife Martha’s firsthand experience running a nonprofit, and the daily struggles she faced simply trying to keep their IT and marketing needs at bay. This enlightened our understanding that organizations needed better tools and greater access to specialists in order to put their donors’ money to the best use.”

- Denis Pierce, Pierce and Associates

YOUR INFLUENCE AT WORK

Answering the Call, Making a Difference

Michael H. TraisonCara Houck
In addition to contributions of time and money, lawyers also use their networks and influence in the community to advance access to justice. One important way lawyers do this is by serving as ambassadors for this cause in their law firms and in the larger community. Michael Traison and Cara Houck are two lawyers who fully embraced that role when they joined Chuck Douglas and many other colleagues as leaders in the 2010 CBF Investing in Justice Campaign and helped make this year a record-breaking success. “I want to thank the CBF for providing a vehicle which makes it easy to give back a little to the same community which has provided us with so much."

- Michael Traison, Miller, Canfield Paddock & Stone
